Convenient to downtown Northampton, Route 9 and Interstate 91 and situated on city bike trails, the family-owned 46-unit complex is made up of spacious and airy one-, two- and three-bedroom residences. Our townhome and garden apartments feature ample basement storage, walkout decks, and brick and stone patios—no two gardens are alike. Many of our units have float-wood flooring. At Aster Fields, every townhome has a landscaped front yard area, tiled entryway and individual rear decks and patios with access to lots of outdoor space and greenery. The first floor has a kitchen, living room, and half bath, with stairs leading to private basement storage and a common laundry area. The kitchen and living room have float-wood laminate flooring. The second floor has a full bathroom and two (or three) bedrooms.The heat is electric. Two bedroom townhomes have 975 sq ft of living area, while the spacious three-bedroom townhomes have 1,075 square feet.

One- and Two-bedroom Garden Apartments

Situated down a gentle hill, our tranquil Aster Row garden apartments overlook a protected nature reserve.  The upper level, 2-bedroom apartments are 860 sq ft with living room access to private balconies, while the lower level 1-bedroom apartments, at 566 sq ft, have sliding glass doors that lead to a patio area. Each apartment has a living room and kitchen (some with float-wood laminate flooring), carpeted bedrooms, full bath, electric heat, and spacious storage closets located at the basement level. A common laundry area is located in the basement.

AMENITIES

INDIVIDUALLY-CRAFTED BRICK AND GOSHEN STONE PATIOS. Our back gardens were carefully designed by Emeritus Professor of Landscape Architecture, Julius Gy. Fabos, who co-owned the complex with his wife, Edith Fabos, from 1974-1999. Fabos connected each ground floor apartment to a unique, individual garden space, most with decks and all with brick or stone patios. Aster Fields residents enjoy a uniquely beautiful and private amenity.

OUTDOOR PICNIC AND GRILL AREA. Aster Fields looks and feels like a park. The large lower central area has community picnic tables and outdoor grilling facilities.

COMMUNITY GROUNDS. We encourage residents to use the park-like grounds for recreation, exercise, and gardening!

BIKE TRAIL ACCESS. Aster Fields is right on the Mass Central Rail Trail and a 10-minute bike ride from downtown Northampton. Greenways like the bike trail system are important to the Aster Fields community. Downtown Amherst and the University of Massachusetts campus are 49 minutes away via the scenic Norwottuck Rail Trail.

NATURE RESERVE. Our spacious property is bounded by a nature reserve on two sides. Residents can enjoy a gurgling brook, a great variety of birds, trees outside their bedroom windows, and green-infused walks along the bike trail (we like the Japanese term for walks in the woods: “forest bathing”). In the winter, how about some snowshoeing?

The townhouse complex was built in 1968 under the name “Pheasant Hill Apartments.” A 24-apartment annex, “Aster Row,” was added in 1972. The complex is located on 3.65 acres and has been in the same family for four decades.

Aster Fields is the project of two sisters, both college professors with roots in the area. We seek to create and maintain a comfortable living community that values diversity, promotes environmentally-sustainable practices, supports local businesses and products, and seeks community input. We strive for an ethical approach to residential management. We have a keen love for aster flowers.
